Dr. Kibbe:
Welcome. I am Dr. David Kibbe, senior advisor for the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Center for Health Information Technology. Thank you for visiting Secure4Health (dot) org.
As a long-time advocate, I know health information technology has the potential to offer real-time information at the point of care and greater privacy and security protections than paper systems.
Whether you are just starting your journey into health information technology or already well on your way, you may have some questions regarding your responsibilities to protect health information and what you can do to improve your security and privacy practices. The goal of the Health Information Security and Privacy Toolkit for providers is to adequately address these questions so they do not become barriers for implementation and participation.
The Toolkit was designed specifically for physicians and the medical community. I invite you to explore our Web site, learn more about electronic health information exchange, find answers to your questions, and take advantage of the tools and resources you need to safely and securely get connected. And, don’t miss the opportunity to earn free CME credits!
After years of research and commitment to health information technology, I firmly believe that it offers physicians the opportunity to make better clinical decisions, avoid duplication and medical errors, and aid in the prevention of certain diseases and conditions. These benefits are most likely to be realized through standardization and interoperable systems.
After reviewing the resources in the Health Information Security and Privacy Toolkit, I believe you will agree that electronic health information exchange is Safe and Secure … and that it is Time to Get Connected!
It is now my pleasure to introduce you to the Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky, Doctor Daniel Mongiardo – a practicing physician as well as a dedicated public servant.
Dr. Mongiardo:
Thank you Doctor Kibbe. It is my pleasure to also welcome you to Secure4Health (dot) org.
In addition to advocating for health information technology on the state level, I understand the many issues facing today’s doctors, especially those like me with small, rural practices.
That’s why I am excited to help launch the Health Information Security and Privacy Toolkit. The many resources contained on this Web site are particularly helpful. And, as Doctor Kibbe mentioned, you can also earn free CME credits.
I, too, am a proponent of secure electronic health information exchange and electronic health records. Not only will the information be private and secure, but it will also help improve the delivery of healthcare services which means better care for our patients. By making health information available to doctors electronically, anywhere, anytime, medical errors and costs can be reduced. It is one way to help improve our healthcare system.
I applaud you for taking this significant first step and encourage you to find out how you can Get Connected!
